About the Gold Rush

The Gold Rush is a team competition. Each team, or squadron as we call them, will need to pack for a long trip and many challenges on the way. This year you will be answering the call of the rebellion in a galaxy far, far, away!

They should note that all gear MUST be carried the entire day, including cooking gear, food and fuel, however they can use backpacks or a sled for their gear. Be sure to review Leave No Trace and backpacking skills when planning your day.

At arrival at the base on Yavin 4, each squadron will receive their Navigation Card and be inspected for proper dress and gear. They will take a squadron picture together. They also have access to the course information and may take notes on direction, topographic features, etc.

It is a long way through the galaxy and each squadron will stop at several planets to complete their missions. When the squadrons leave the base town, they will proceed to the planet of Hoth to begin their journey. After they receive thier mission orders, they will perform some tasks for the rebel forces and make an escape from the planet. Directions to the planets are marked along the way and the squadron can use map and compass to verify their course. At each planet the squadron must complete several activities to gain a piece of technology they need on Naboo. They will also receive payment based on their skill, spirit, and teamwork.

COURSE

THE COURSE: As you enter orbit at each planet you will receive a communication about your goals and the challenges you might face. Pay careful attention to your contact, they know the planet best! Bring a SmartPhone to view these instructions and take part in the online activities for the day too!

Upon finishing your mission, each squadron reports to the main base on Dantooine to have their Credits counted. We will close with an awards ceremony where we will hand out individual squadron awards and patches for the event. The day ends with an auction for goods where you can spend the Credits you earned on the way. There will be personal and patrol equipment, gift certificates and other items you may bid on.

There are also many opportunities to complete requirements for rank and Merit Badges.
